POSITIVE IMPACT

The Ripple Effect of Your Journey

Travel has a way of opening you up to somewhere unfamiliar, revealing layers in what you thought you already knew. The best journeys change you.

That same journey ripples outward too: to the places you visit, the people you meet, the wild landscapes that make it possible.

Journey Costa Rica is a certified B Corporation, proud to be part of a global movement using business as a force for good. This rigorous, ongoing process examines every aspect of a company’s operations, measuring its social and environmental impact. It gives us a framework to track progress and keep raising the bar, while delivering the high-touch, immersive experiences our guests expect.

Who We Partner With

Bosque Vivo Foundation

Bosque Vivo Foundation

Bosque Vivo is Costa Rica's first high-altitude forest rehabilitation project, restoring forests that filter and replenish the water flowing into rivers and drinking supplies far below. Through volunteering, education, a working greenhouse, and hands-on research, they're rebuilding these forests one tree at a time, and we're proud to stand beside them.

Impact So Far

Impact So Far

Together, we've restored 900 square metres of wetland, planted over 4,000 trees and shrubs, and welcomed more than 950 kids and adults through hands-on environmental education. Across 15 planting events and a new environmental classroom built to host it all, the forest is growing, one visit at a time.

Who We Partner With

Wonder

WONDER

Our passionate team designs tailor-made, luxury journeys from a base of innovation and relentless exploration. We don´t want to just tell you how inspirational Costa Rica is, we want you to experience it for yourself. Through making personal connections with Costa Rica´s communities, ecosystems, and natural life, we seek to spark a sense of wonder that can change perspectives and ignite an impulse to protect our environments.

Awareness

AWARENESS

While bringing enormous benefits, Journey Costa Rica also acknowledges that travel has its consequences through transport emissions and participation in certain activities. We ask our collaborators about their sustainable practices, working with selected partners that measure their impact, as well as prioritizing hotels, lodges and modes of transportation based on their approach. We also highlight the efforts and achievements of our partners in order to inform others about the possibilities for responsible travel.

Action

ACTION

We´re thrilled to partner with the Bosque Vivo Foundation! This family-led initiative is dedicated to reforesting and rehabilitating Costa Rica´s high-altitude forests, the first and currently the only project to do so in the country. For every guest that travels with us, Journey Costa Rica charges a conservation fee per traveler which goes directly to Bosque Vivo to support their invaluable work. We love connecting our travelers with hands on sustainable experiences, from meeting up with local conservationists and visiting biological research stations, to planting trees as part of reforestation programs.

Bosque Vivo

Bosque Vivo is the first high altitude forest rehabilitation project in Costa Rica. The foundation is passionate about restoring these forests to their natural state and raising awareness about their importance.

High altitude forests are life-giving due to their crucial role in the hydrological cycle, replenishing and filtering the water in aquifers and streams that supply drinking water and become lowland rivers.

The Bosque Vivo Foundation is divided into four main projects:

  • Volunteering: Opportunities that allow others to donate their time and effort to planting trees. Teamwork is a key principle in Bosque Vivo´s approach to achieving change.
  • Education: The forest becomes an immersive classroom with Aula Bosque, providing children with a sensorial learning experience that seeks to plant the seeds of empathy and concern for the preservation of the forests.
  • Greenhouse: Located in Porrosatí, Heredia, the Bosque Vivo Greenhouse is dedicated to collecting seeds, germination, transplanting into bags, and taking care of the trees and shrubs.
  • Research & Development: In response to the lack of practical knowledge about high-altitude greenhouses, it´s necessary to investigate the best practices for success in germination, seedling development, and the transplanting of trees for reforestation.
