Fermata was created through the revitalization of an abandoned project, completed in just eight months to limit construction impact and reduce its overall footprint. The hotel operates with an on-site black-water treatment system, allowing water to be reused for irrigation, and integrates energy-efficient air-conditioning, water heaters, high R-value roof insulation, and native landscaping to minimize resource use. Guest rooms feature locally sourced, organic amenities, while the restaurant prioritizes ingredients from nearby producers. All hotel, restaurant, and surf school staff are local or long-term residents, employed year-round with full social security coverage. Single-use disposables are eliminated across the property, reinforcing a low-impact approach.
