Finca Rosa Blanca

Heredia, San Jose & Central Valley Highlands

This arty family inn up in the hills feels far removed from the city yet is just a 30-minute drive from San José´s Airport. The property´s playful architecture is surrounded by tropical gardens and set on an organic coffee plantation, where the owners grow, dry, and roast their own beans.

The hotel has a great spring-fed infinity pool looking over the gardens and an organic aesthetic that´s decorated with murals, mosaics and sculptures. El Targua Spa offers treatments using local ingredients like coffee and chocolate, and El Tigre Vestido restaurant cooks with fresh produce grown in the hotel´s fruit orchard and organic vegetable and herb greenhouse.

Ideal For: sustainable travel, artistic boutique hotel, organic chef´s gardens

We love how unique this boutique felt; family-owned and nestled up in the hills with a focus on producing the best organic coffee while implementing a whole host of sustainable initiatives. There´s nothing like sipping your morning coffee knowing it was grown in the hotel grounds! Finca Rosa Blanca generates electricity and hot water with solar power, uses non-chemical water in the pool, and follows a progressive recycling and regeneration plan. The property was also one of the first carbon-neutral hotels and over the past 25 years has planted more than 5,000 native trees – amazing efforts!

Finca Rosa Blanca strives to have a positive social and environmental impact with a commitment to not just sustainability but also regeneration. The hotel has been awarded ‘Elite’ level in its Certification for Sustainable Tourism (CST), together with a 5 out of 5 ranking from the Blue Ecological Flag program for its work in mitigation, reduction, and consciousness about trying to reverse Climate Change.
Initiatives like solar-powered electricity and solar-heated water, a chemical-free ionized swimming pool, an ambitious plan of recycling and regeneration, and avoiding toxic chemicals support the property in minimizing its negative impact on the environment. With a focus on regeneration, Finca Rosa Blanca has planted more than 5,000 native trees in the past 25 years and was one of the first carbon-neutral hotels in Costa Rica.

Additionally, training is in place to educate staff, guests and the community on environmental preservation, as well as promoting social education and environmental justice. The hotel’s employees are 100% local to directly benefit its immediate neighbors.
