The Four Seasons adheres to the Papagayo Peninsula´s 70% natural requirements, a regulation meaning that resorts must blend in with the natural landscape in order to reduce disturbance to wildlife and the nature it inhabits.
The property has reduced its use of plastic considerably, replacing plastic bottles in guest rooms with glass bottles that are sterilized and then re-used, removing plastic straws from all its restaurants, and installing water refill stations all over the property to encourage guests to use personal water bottles. Waste is also recycled, with organic waste going to a compost farm where it's used to feed the pigs.
Aside from environmental efforts, the resort is concerned about its social impact and has partnered up with ´Creciendo Juntos´ (Growing Together), a local charity project that strives to empower residents in 19 Guanacaste communities through increased access to health, education, and training. Additionally, guests can take part in projects during their stay such as coral restoration clean-ups (accompanied by a divemaster), school outreach programs, and tree reforestation. Visitors can also make donations that will go towards providing local school supplies and supporting families in the area.
