San José, San José & Central Valley Highlands

Step back in time at Grano de Oro, a converted Victorian mansion built at the turn of the 20th century. Elegant guest rooms honor the property´s past with period furniture, wooden wall paneling, French windows, and ornate details.

Dark wood design runs through the hotel with a coffee bean richness, setting a grand atmosphere for dining at the Grano de Oro restaurant, complete with an award-winning wine cellar with over 165 labels to sip. Head to the jacuzzi terrace for post-exploring relaxation!

Ideal For: city stopover, traditional design, city exploring

We love Grano de Oro´s traditional look and boutique feel, with little hallways and interior gardens. With many years of experience, the staff offers great service and with a location in downtown it´s easy to explore San José

Hotel Grano de Oro has been awarded four of the five leaves possible in a rigorous sustainability certification managed by the Costa Rica Tourism Board.

The hotel organizes street clean-ups and tree-planting that staff can participate in, as well as contests to see who can save the most electricity and water at home, encouraging employees to produce energy-saving strategies.

In 2003 Grano de Oro’s owners, Eldon and Lori Cooke, started Casa Luz. Now managed by a non-profit association, the project provides a safe space for young women and children who experience abuse and sexual exploitation at home.
