This region is home to the tranquil mountain town of Monteverde and its magical cloud forest, where miles of tropical trails wind through mist-covered jungle; a unique habitat for the likes of the rare Resplendent Quetzal, monkeys, coatis, and sloths.
North of Monteverde, Arenal Volcano rises into the sky, with hiking trails and geothermal pools at its base, while the surrounding area draws adventurers with ziplining over rainforest canopy, rappelling down waterfalls, and rafting on the Sarapiquí River. Nearby, inside Tenorio Volcano National Park, the Río Celeste cascades into a bright turquoise pool, its striking color the result of volcanic minerals reacting where two streams merge at the source.
